Apprentice Program
Cincinnati Yoga Teacher Association (CYTA)
This program is to provide friendship, leadership, training,
support and encouragement to those students who wish to share yoga with
the community by becoming yoga instructors and those who would like to
strengthen their own practice. The Apprentice Program is facilitated by
the Apprentice Committee and the Apprentice Qualifications Chairperson or
their designates.
PREREQUISITES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. The candidate should be sponsored by a teacher member "in good
standing" who has known the applicant for three months or more. The
sponsor pledges to mentor, support, encourage, and guide the apprentice
with techniques to aid teaching skills and build self confidence in
sharing yoga.
2. The sponsor/mentor is responsible for obtaining the necessary
application forms and for submitting them to the Apprentice Qualifications
Chairperson.
3. Application fee of $100 per year for the program plus the
CYTA $35 membership fee must be submitted along with the apprentice
application ($10 non-refundable.)
4. Application material must be submitted two weeks prior to
scheduled board meeting.
5. Qualifications Chairperson will review application material
and may request further information according to his/her discretion and
will present recommendations to the Board at the next board meeting,
6. The apprentice will receive a written notification upon acceptance of
the application from the Apprentice Qualifications Chairperson.
7. To graduate from the apprentice program the apprentice must be in “Good
Standing” for two years and is subject to semi-annual review by the
Apprentice Committee and sponsor/mentor. The apprentice receives a
Certificate of Completion upon graduation.
8. Good Standing Apprentice:
a)
Must attend yoga classes under their sponsor’s supervision on a
regular basis.
b)
Must attend a minimum of two-thirds of the Gatherings per year.
c)
Must attend one member or CYTA sponsored program per year as a
participant.
d)
Must volunteer their help to CYTA one time per year—karma yoga.
e)
Must attend two CYTA board meetings per year (CYTA yearly
dinner/meeting qualifies).
f)
Must have a total of 10 hours of a teaching practicum that is in
line with the Yoga Alliance’s national standard for practicum. This
includes student teaching as well as observing and assisting in classes
taught by others. Hours may be a combination of supervised and
unsupervised.”
g)
Must pay annual apprentice and CYTA membership dues in a timely
manner
h)
Apprentice and sponsor must review progress and concerns every
third month (4 times per year), which must be documented in the
apprentice’s journal and initialed by sponsor.
i)
Apprentice must show written documentation and verification for
all of the above. Apprentice will maintain a journal documenting
participation/attendance in the above programs and notes on educational
material as prescribed by the Apprentice Committee. Must show ethical
conduct towards members, apprentices and yoga students.
